Rock out

As much as I adore working with babies and toddlers, it was a nice change of pace to spend some time hanging out with these middle-school age brothers. Although they are all very unique, they do share an intense common love of music. Mom wanted to incorporate both the traditional and more funky styles that the boys enjoy playing, so we split our time between the formal music room and the DJ studio in the basement. Yes, you read that right – they have an actual, functioning DJ booth, and they know how to use it! Mom is planning a massive canvas collage featuring these images to help decorate the space, and I’m dying to see how it all looks on the walls!

Remember the Love

Sometimes I look at my little family of four and can’t imagine what our lives would be like with another child. It is so perfect, exciting, and, well, overwhelming with the children we already have, that adding a third seems a bit crazy! And maybe it would be. But this family sure made it look fun! I loved watching how the little boy looked up to his big sisters, and equally enjoyed seeing how his sisters played so well with him. Sure, there was a TON of energy involved and I was ready for a nap as soon as the session ended, but they made having three kids seem like the most amazing thing in the world.

The images we captured this beautiful summer evening make my heart happy. Mom walking down the beach chatting and laughing with her girls…the whole family hugging, tickling, giggling…sisters laughing at a shared secret…these are my favorite kind of images, both for my clients and my own family. Years from now, I want to remember the love we shared, the fun we had, and the way we played. I am honored to have documented a few hours in this family’s life, and I am thrilled that they love their images as much as I do.

Light, Love, and Laughter

Three kids, 100 sticky degrees, and about a trillion mosquitoes. Seems like a recipe for disaster rather than a photo shoot!
And yet…not only did we make it through the session, but everyone managed to have fun and look amazing at the same time. Of course, it helped that we were in a beautiful park surrounded by the most gorgeous late-summer light. I think beautiful light makes everyone happier. Even if they are being attacked by ginormous blood-sucking bugs.

Having Fun

During the planning phase of this session, Mom told me that she wanted photos “of the boys having fun, just doing what they do.” So, we played!

One of my favorite things about this session was witnessing the strong bond between brothers. Big bro knew just how to make the little guy laugh, and giggles spilled everywhere when they hugged/wrestled. I think the only thing better than hanging out with the boys was watching their mother’s face as she looked on from the sidelines.

More Fall Fun

A few more snaps of my boys (and girl) apple picking yesterday…

Now we’re gearing up for an afternoon of baking! Bring on the cinnamon 🙂

Kids, My Family

Welcome Fall

If there’s one thing I like more than summer in New England…it’s autumn in New England! We had a blast at Smolak Farm’s Apple Festival today – apple picking with Johnny Appleseed, singalongs, great food, wagon and hay rides, and even selecting the perfect pumpkin. It’s all happening again Sunday, so head on over if you are looking for something fun and “fallish” to do with (or without!) the kids.

Michelle’s Menagerie

This morning, my boys and I were treated to an amazing show, courtesy of Imajine That and Michelle’s Menagerie! The boys can’t stop talking about the snake, but I think my favorite was the fox…

Welcome home, Darby!

It’s hard to describe how much this little girl means to our family. She was our first baby, and we often remind Hudson and Ollie that they need to love and respect their big sister! Most mornings, Oliver and I come downstairs first and he snuggles up to Darby in her dog bed, gently spreading his beloved blanket all around her. Hudson adores taking her for walks and playing fetch in the back yard. She is such a good girl that neighbors often think she has an electric collar because she chases squirrels at full speed precisely until she reaches the property line! At night, she’s my editing buddy – curling up in my lap as I spend endless hours in front of the computer.

When she got sick last week, we were devastated to hear the vet even suggest the possibility that she might not make it. We still don’t understand the exact cause, but she suffered from acute kidney failure, and without the love, medicine, and dedication of the staff at Bulger Animal Hospital, she might not be with us today. The boys and I were overjoyed to pick her up today, and we are crossing our fingers that her condition continues to improve in the coming days. For now, though, we are just focused on giving our little girl as much love as we possibly can!

My Family

A breeze

Editing this session was a breeze – the family seriously belongs in a magazine! Not to mention the impeccably decorated house (I know mom is laughing as she reads this because she insists it’s a work in progress…). Little A was just over 7 weeks when these pics were taken, and he was such a trooper! We wanted some open-eye shots of his baby blues – check. Sleepy shots of his innocent little face – check. Cuddly, loving, beautiful shots of the family together – check. Even the dog cooperated! Doesn’t get much better than that…

Celebrate

This session was a celebration. A celebration of a very special third birthday, a celebration of a family’s love, and a celebration of life by the sea. I loved absolutely everything about it – from the gorgeous light and uncensored love to the giggles and playful splashes. This is what being a family is all about!
