LA Maternity Photographer – Culver City baby

This session was extra special for me, because that’s my gorgeous little sister and her husband, preparing to welcome my newest nephew into the world 🙂 We had a lovely evening walking around their neighborhood in Culver City, CA, trying to incorporate as many of their favorite spots as possible. We strolled downtown, played in the fountain, passed by Culver Studios, visited city hall, and even stopped by their local market for a few shots.

Culver City was an awesome way to capture significant landmarks near their home, but the beach also holds a special place in their hearts. So once we had thoroughly trekked through Culver, we headed to the ocean for sunset. The clouds were ominous at first, but the sun peeked out for just enough time for us to get some beautiful beachy shots. In fact, I think the clouds only made these photos more beautiful!

Andover Maternity Photographer – Flower power

This maternity mini was full of laughter, love, and lots of flowers! As much as I enjoy photographing kids and babies, it’s sometimes very relaxing and..well…FUN to work with expectant mamas – especially when they trust me enough to go with the flow and try all of my crazy ideas 🙂

Why I love albums (and you will, too!)

It all started when I ran out of wall space in my home. As a photographer, I understand the importance of printing my own family’s photos, and displaying them around the house. But I take a lot of pictures. I mean, a LOT. And I love so many that it’s virtually impossible to choose which ones to display and which to leave on a hard drive somewhere. Each photo captures an emotion, a nuance, a look, a moment in time that I’ll never get back – and I wanted to be able to look at and enjoy each and every one, without having to pick and choose. So, I started creating albums.

I have albums everywhere. I have albums filled with photos of my everyday life, albums with styled session images, and albums of simple snapshots. There are albums in my kid’s rooms, and albums stacked at arm’s reach in the family room. And WE LOOK AT THEM. All the time. My kids often choose to leaf though old albums in lieu of bedtime stories at night, and we laugh and talk about the memories they hold. It makes me so happy to see my photos being enjoyed and appreciated on a daily basis.

That got me thinking – if I appreciate albums that much, then my clients would probably love them too. While a canvas on the wall can display a favorite image from a photo session, what happens to all of those other “in between” shots that capture the little things that define a family? Mom snuggling her babies…a spontaneous hug…Dad giving his son a piggyback ride. All of these images tell a story, and they belong TOGETHER.

And that’s how I made the decision to include an heirloom quality 10×10 photo album with each and every full session that I do. The feedback I’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive. In the past, people have let their images sit on a USB in a drawer somewhere, with the intention of eventually printing them…someday. Now, I do all of the work, and families can enjoy the images easily and often. And that makes me very, very happy.

I’ll be blogging album images more often in the future. For now, here is a newborn album that I recently delivered. It was so beautiful that I was almost sad to see it go!

Nyack Maternity Photographer – Worth the wait!

Most maternity sessions are mini-sessions, typically reserved as an add-on to a newborn session. We spend about 20-30 minutes capturing a few images of the baby bump and parents-to-be, and enjoy getting to know each other before the baby arrives.

When these parents-to-be told me that they were expecting a baby girl in May, however, I knew we needed to make it a full session. They have been waiting for this moment for a very long time, and are now savoring every second of pregnancy! They also happen to be two of the sweetest, kindest, most generous, loving people I know, and I couldn’t be happier to do this for them!
The evening of our session was perfection. It was one of the first warm Spring days of the season, the sun was shining, and Mom was glowing. First, we headed to a “natural” setting in a beautiful wooded area. I LOVED that flowing dress – doesn’t it make her look like a goddess?!

Then we headed to downtown Nyack, NY at sunset. Although the spring flowers weren’t yet blooming in the ground, we found these bright yellow blossoms in a pot by one of the shops, and I love the pop of color it added to our images!

Good luck to you both! I can’t wait to meet your new little one next month!

LA Maternity Photographer – a new nephew!

My sister is having a baby! I’ll have a new nephew next August, and I am over the moon excited about it. She may live on the other side of the country, but I hope to see that baby boy as often as possible – so you may notice more travel sessions available in LA over the next few years 😉

This past weekend, we threw the parents-to-be a “You are my Sunshine” baby shower back east, and it was so much fun!

My daughter was very intrigued by the celebration and the idea of a new cousin. She even appointed herself as the official gift-giver! It will be so interesting to see how they interact when the baby is finally born.

It may have been freezing outside, but we spent about 30 seconds grabbing a couple of maternity pics at the end of the day. Aren’t they so sweet?! I still can’t get used to seeing my little sister with a baby belly!

Merrimack Valley Newborn Photographer – Embrace the chaos!

As I went through this family’s newborn images, I realized that I never blogged their maternity mini-session! I know I’ve said it before, but I just love how adding a maternity mini to a newborn sessions allows us to meet, talk, and get excited together before the baby is even born.
Merrimack Valley Maternity Photographer

On the morning I first met this little guy, I was impressed by how calm the household was – especially the three older siblings! They all enjoyed holding and snuggling their little brother, and mom and dad were so obviously in love with their kiddos. Of course, there was certainly some craziness at times, but nobody seemed particularly bothered by it. I suppose that’s the only way to successfully parent a big family! Embrace the chaos 🙂

Methuen maternity photographer – Sisters

These big sisters may just have been the sweetest, happiest, most enthusiastic kiddos I’ve ever photographed! They were up for anything I suggested, and we all enjoyed running, snuggling, jumping, dancing and exploring together. One of my favorite things about maternity sessions is that they allow me to really get to know a family before the chaos of the newborn session. I only hope that baby brother is as easygoing as his siblings!

Pinkle Toes Photography workshop

Way back in 2011, I attended a Pinkle Toes Photography workshop in Austin, TX that changed my life. I know, that sounds really dramatic…but I swear, it’s true! That weekend, I began to put the pieces of my business together, made lifelong friends, and confirmed my decision to transition from my career in Education to Photography. It’s a trip that I hold dear to my heart and will never forget.

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to hang out with a different (but equally fantastic) group of women in Ridgewood, NJ for a new and improved Pinkle Toes Photography workshop! I was amazed and humbled by how much talent surrounded me (seriously, these women are incredible!). Of course, the best part of the whole weekend was the opportunity to visit and learn from my dear friend Michele. Together, we laughed, talked, learned, and, of course, took some photos! Although I actually managed to keep my camera off for most of the trip, I did snap a few images during our time together. I hope you enjoy the photos below, and then take a few minutes to see the images captured by the other attendees!

In the daffodils

Although I’m still incredibly behind on posting all of my sessions from last fall, I thought that I’d try to be better about blogging my newest sessions now that I’m back from maternity leave! I’m sure I’ll fall behind again at some point, but, well, I’ll do my best…

I’ve had the honor and privilege of photographing this family since they were a family of three. Now they’re expecting a little boy in July, and I couldn’t be more excited for them! That little guy is going to have two amazing big sisters, and I’m sure they will all enjoy adding more trucks and dinosaurs to the house 😉

Last weeks

In these last few weeks as a family of 4, I find myself watching my little guys with a new realization – they are no longer babies. That may sound a bit silly, since they have grew out of toddlerhood awhile ago, but there is nothing like a new baby to emphasize just how grown up your other children are. While I am a bit nostalgic for those days of babyhood, mostly I am just proud of the little boys they are becoming. I love listening to their conversations, laughing at their nonsensical jokes, and watching each of them carve out his own unique personality, interests, and talents. At the same time, I am unbelievably excited to find out who their little sister will be, and how the boys will react to her. My guess is that they will thrive in the role of big brother, and will enjoy helping us care for her. At the very least, they will certainly take it upon themselves to make sure she has a thorough knowledge of trucks!
I am so incredibly grateful to my friend Erica for helping me capture our family as we are right now, just before our world is turned upside down (in a good way!).

Some newborns…

Some newborns come home from the hospital and sleep for what seems like two weeks straight. Others are so intrigued by the bright, new world around them that they barely blink during their entire photo session! The great thing is that you likely can’t tell the difference when you see the photos 🙂

This little beauty made us work for it, but our efforts paid off when she snuggled in and took a refreshing 5-minute doze.

I always love when I have the chance to get to know a couple during a maternity session. It’s so nice to already feel “connected” to the family before the little one is even born! Since I’m extremely behind on posting these days, I suppose I should also share their maternity images from a few months ago…

“This is probably my favorite picture in the world. I can’t help but ponder what he is thinking/dreaming about. I also look into his eyes and realize that he has his whole life ahead of him; that his life has just started and the possibilities are endless. You took a perfect picture of innocence and wonder. The picture also displays to me the true meaning of comfort and security. ” – Mom

IMAGE 2:

“The reason we both picked this image is  because it really captures the love Avery and Griffin have for each other while still showing their fearless personalities and boundless energy.  Every time We look at this picture We say to each other ‘Red Light! Green Light!'” -Mom and Dad

IMAGE 3:

“This image is my favorite because you captured  Dylan’s bright blue eyes, adorable nose and all of his gorgeous features that are changing every day.” -Mom

IMAGE 4:

“We picked this photo because it shows the love between these two and when most people see it they aren’t even sure if Cooper (dog) is real! About a second after this shot, Quinn tipped over behind Coop so it really was a once in a million. They love each other and we love them both so much. So happy that we have this image forever.” -Dad

IMAGE 5:

“I laugh every time I look at it, remembering how I was in the crib trying to hold him and his monkeys up!  The pic fits him, he is a monkey. He is always climbing on or over everything!” – Mom

IMAGE 6:

“Family get-togethers are, shall we say, interesting when you have a biracial child. My Filipino family thinks she looks white and JUST like David. David’s Caucasian family thinks she looks totally Filipino and JUST like me. It never fails when we look at a picture of our daughter – in one shot she’ll look just like me, while in the next she’ll have an expression that is totally her dad’s. But it’s the very rare photo where she actually looks like BOTH of us at the same time. We also love this picture because it’s a family photo, but with us looking at our daughter as she looks at the camera – while she hugs us. That’s our family in a nutshell!” – Mom

IMAGE 7:

“I chose this picture because it captures the innocence and beauty of Lucy. Her eyes just simply captivate you.  The morning light and the colors are so electrifying, Lucy appears angelic.  Glancing at this photo, you can’t help but smile and think, ‘What a happy child!'” – Mom

IMAGE 8:

“This is one of those moments frozen in a photograph that truly represents our 3 year old son’s whole hearted enthusiasm on being a big brother. His 1 week old sister is calmly asleep in the crook of his arm, and he is simply beaming with joy to proudly show her off to the world. Their lifelong sibling relationship is still in its infancy, but capturing it in this picture is pure magic to their parents.” – Mom and Dad

IMAGE 9:

“When I look at this picture, I see joy… pure and simple. My newly turned one year old baby girl sat in that blue chair thrilled, optimistic, and filled with love. It was a crazy first year for all of us, filled with colic, infant colitis, a tough economy, exhilarating highs, challenging lows, and the typical trials any baby & parent would face. It wasn’t an easy road to her presence in this world, but she came, like she was meant to all along. Emma is filled with so much life- a vigor and passion I can’t explain. She was born that way. I think of that photo constantly and how it completely captured Emma- her smile (“I’m such a happy, daring, energetic, & loving girl”), her little feet kicking (ready and raring to hit the ground running), her auburn hair in the sun (a connection we share), her eyes (smiling and taking everything in)…” – Mom

IMAGE 10:

“This photo will always bring me back to the time when my son was small enough to fit into my planter! A time when a 7 lbs 4 ounce, chubby cheeked little man stole my heart forever! To me, this picture completely captures the innocence and purity that encompasses being a beautiful newborn.” – Mom

IMAGE 11:

“We chose this image, because you really captured the essence of the boy. He looks happy and a little bit mischievous all at the same time!!” – Mom

IMAGE 12:

“Mother of three…mother of three.  Those words kept ringing in my head for months before Gavin was born.  How do I manage being a mother of three??  Is there enough of me to give to ALL of them??  I knew I would love this new baby, that was a given.  But there were days when the thought of a new little one in our lives just consumed me.  What I wasn’t sure of was would Harrison and Elizabeth love this new baby when we brought him home and we had to “keep him”.  Could we survive the chaos?  Could I still be as connected to Harrison and Elizabeth as I was before Gavin?

This one picture captures what I finally realized.  There is enough love and as a family we can survive anything as long as we huddle together.

I love the way this picture captures exactly what we’ve become (my kids and I)…closer.  My older two hugging me exactly where they always seem to hug me when we snuggle, with Gavin in the middle soaking it all in.  So unfazed by these two “big kids” that have captured his heart and in turn he has captured theirs.” – Mom

IMAGE 13:

“Loads of Love” – Mom

IMAGE 14:

“This picture is so special to me because you have captured one of the earliest connections between Nathan and Emma.  They both truly adore each other.  I think there’s no greater bond than that of siblings and this picture speaks volumes as to the love they share.  It melts my heart!” – Mom
