Andover Newborn Photographer -Looking back

After taking a VERY long break from blogging, I was finally motivated to start posting again as I was editing this sweet baby’s first year photos. That’s right, he just turned ONE, and I hadn’t blogged his newborn photos yet! I’ve loved watching him grow throughout the past year during his mini sessions – I’ll try to post those in the coming weeks.

Photographing a newborn and a toddler is always a bit of a challenge, but with a little time, love, and attention, big brother slowed down, snuggled up, and allowed us to get some awesome shots together! The key to capturing this combination is certainly patience 😉

LA Newborn Photographer – itty bitty sweetness

10.01.15

I was going to start this post by apologizing for the excessive number of photos in it….but the truth is that I’m not sorry at all! You see, this bundle of sweetness is my brand new nephew, and I’m sort of obsessed with him 🙂 He was just 19 days old when I first got to breathe in his sweet baby smell, snuggle him into my arms, and stare at him for hours. While I wish he lived a little (ok, a lot!) closer to us, I’m grateful that I had this time with him while he was still itty bitty! Of course, we managed to squeeze in some photos between all of that snuggling. Since he was still so little and new, we opted to keep things simple and did all of the photos inside. In fact, even though they just moved into a gorgeous new house, we ended up sticking to just two rooms with pretty light. With a baby that cute, who cares about pretty scenery?! I’m sure by his 6-month session we’ll be trekking all over Culver City…

If anyone out there is looking for an LA Newborn Photographer (or LA family photographer, or LA maternity photographer, or LA child photographer etc.) let me know! I’d love another excuse to get back to Cali for another visit.

As much as I adored meeting my nephew, I was equally excited to see my sister in her new role as Mommy <3 She's been around babies and kids all her life, so while I wasn't surprised that she was a natural, it was still so beautiful to watch her love and nurture her very own little one.

And look at those eyes! So handsome!!

The baby’s canine big sis is still getting used to the idea of having a little brother. He’s squeaky, but apparently NOT a chew toy…

I’m already counting down the days until I can squeeze him again over the holidays…

Orchard Photo Session – Sunset in the flowers

I fell in love with this gorgeous location as soon as I spotted it! The flowers, the light, that cute tree branch at just the perfect height to sit in…Just add a glowing mom and her babies, and you have all the makings of a beautiful mini-session! Spring Mini Session – Sitting pretty

When we first started planning this beautiful baby girl’s spring mini session, we never imagined that it would still be so cold at the end of April! She was a trooper, though. You’d never know that it was windy and freezing as we enjoyed the gorgeous spring landscape.
And that flower crown! Isn’t it spectacular?! Mom bought it from THE WOOLY POSSUM on Etsy (check her out on FACEBOOK, too!).
I love being able to follow little ones as they grow through the first year. Just look how much she’s grown since her NEWBORN SESSION! These mini’s are a perfect way to capture all of the major milestones – sitting, crawling, standing, and – eventually – walking!

Merrimack Valley Newborn Photographer – Embrace the chaos!

As I went through this family’s newborn images, I realized that I never blogged their maternity mini-session! I know I’ve said it before, but I just love how adding a maternity mini to a newborn sessions allows us to meet, talk, and get excited together before the baby is even born.

On the morning I first met this little guy, I was impressed by how calm the household was – especially the three older siblings! They all enjoyed holding and snuggling their little brother, and mom and dad were so obviously in love with their kiddos. Of course, there was certainly some craziness at times, but nobody seemed particularly bothered by it. I suppose that’s the only way to successfully parent a big family! Embrace the chaos 🙂

Andover Newborn Photography – Baby brother

I first met this family last fall, at their MATERNITY SESSION. The girls were playful, loving, happy – and very excited to meet their baby brother! It’s always so helpful to get to know older siblings before a newborn session. Bringing a new baby home can be a major adjustment for a family, and I love being a familiar, friendly face for the big kids.

On this snowy morning, we snuggled, played, and eventually got baby brother to sleep. Even the dog got in on the love!

Of course, we had to snap a few shots for their Christmas card!

Methuen Baby Photographer – Falling leaves

03.24.15

This winter has been filled with snow days, family movies, snuggles, cooking, games, and books. After an insanely busy (and wonderful) fall, I allowed myself to relish the quiet season. I didn’t blog, I didn’t give my website the overhaul it needs, I didn’t do a bit of advertising or marketing…and it was simply wonderful. But, after a few months of actually sitting on the couch in the evening instead of at my computer, I’m ready to dive back in and get to work! I have lots of Spring sessions coming up when the snow eventually melts, so I thought I should finally finish up blogging the last of my fall sessions!

This little lady came to play on a gorgeous, colorful, fall day, and was fascinated by all of the bright leaves that fell around her! It was a bit chilly, but all it took were a few snuggles with mom to bring back that infectious smile.

Holiday mini sessions – A Winter Wonderland

I’ve been sitting on this post for awhile – but I think it’s finally safe to blog some of my 2014 HOLIDAY MINIS! This year’s sessions were filled with laughter, snow, hot cocoa, and lots of candy canes! We all had so much fun that it actually felt like more of a party than a photo shoot. Of course, I did take a LOT of photos, but it still didn’t really seem like work. I loved seeing the children’s eyes light up when they entered the winter wonderland we created at SMOLAK FARMS! It was so magical that my own kids actually asked if they could come play in it after my sessions were over 🙂

This girl! Oh, how I love her! I’ve had the pleasure of photographing her every 6 months since she was born, and she just gets sweeter and more adorable with each session. She also gets faster! I chased her around for quite some time a few weeks ago, and captured images of her playing, laughing, and loving life.

And just look at that costume! Isn’t it awesome?! I loved how she embraced the role of Superwoman with such enthusiasm – flying through the air with her cape blowing behind her in the wind.

Sunflower photo session – 18 months!

09.21.14

The past 18 months have undoubtedly been the most chaotic of my life. Between caring for three crazy kids, operating a successful business, and running on little to no sleep (thanks, Julia!), I barely have a second to breath. Coffee has become a necessity, and days often fly by in a blur of spilled milk, bandaids, sharks, emails, dolls, and snuggles. And yet, as hectic as life is, I can’t imagine it any other way. Ok, so maybe I’d like a little (lot?) more sleep…but aside from that, I am incredibly grateful to be able to spend my days at home with my children, even if it means long nights at the computer.

Julia has grown into a toddler in the past few months, and amazes us every day with new words, opinions, and abilities. She desperately wants to keep up with her brothers, resulting in a lot of skinned knees, laughter, and interests in things that are far beyond her years. Just the other day, Hudson taught her to karate chop – and she’s been doing it constantly ever since. While clinging to her favorite doll. And belting out the lyrics to “Let it Go.” Yup, she’s got personality alright!

I decided to head out to the Colby Farm sunflowers last week to scout things out for an upcoming session. Of course, it was also a perfect excuse to take some 18 month photos of my baby girl! We had a blast, and I love the images we captured in the short time we were there.

Littleton Family Photographer – A morning at home

I first met this family a year ago when B was just a tiny NEWBORN. Mom and I hit it off, and I’m now lucky to consider her a friend! I’ve had the pleasure of watching these kiddos grow through the past year, and it was wonderful to capture their big personalities again with a photo session a few weeks ago. After looking at bare walls in their new house for quite some time, they were anxious to finally fill them with some beautiful, custom wall art. I can’t wait to see these images hanging up!

I just loved those photos of big sis on the tire swing! Can you believe that I almost left without ever even knowing that it was hiding out back?!

Cape Cod Photographer – Beach sunset

When this family first contacted me about doing a session during their yearly vacation in Cape Cod, I knew right away that I wanted to find a way to make it happen! As I’ve said before, CAPE COD has a special place in my heart, and I knew how beautiful a sunset session would be. The beaches on the Cape are unique in that the sun sets over the water on the bay side – something that is hard to come by on the East Coast.

Of course, beach sessions are always filled with lots of potential challenges – bugs, heat and wind could all make for less than ideal conditions. That’s why we decided to grab some photos at the family’s house before heading over to our dream location. Lucky for us, the weather was perfect, the wind calm, and the bugs didn’t come out until just after the sun dipped below the horizon. It also helped that baby girl was full of smiles and giggles, and happy to snuggle and play with Mom and Dad. And the light! Oh, the light! It just got better and better all evening, until the colors just exploded right at sunset. Simply amazing 🙂

Gloucester Family Photographer – In motion

09.01.14

Most kids like to run. But these two LOVE to run. Or climb. Or do anything that would make an adult’s head spin! Luckily, I was warned about this ahead of time, and Mom and I chose session locations that would allow for all of the action that the family loves, while still providing a beautiful backdrop. We started at their house, where everyone was happy and comfortable. Then, when things started getting a little crazy, we headed over to a little park right by the water to enjoy some swings and slides. We finished up the session at beautiful Good Harbor Beach, just as the sun was sinking below the horizon. The images we captured are certainly true to life – full love love, smiles, and lots and lots of action!

Andover Photographer – Natural parents

08.24.14

Many first time parents are a bit overwhelmed when they bring their little ones home from the hospital. Adjusting to long (often sleepless) nights, frequent feedings, and caring for this beautiful – but demanding – new boss of the household can be quite a shock.
So when I knocked on the door to photograph this new family, I expected to walk into chaos. But much to my surprise, all that greeted me was love and patience. That’s not to say that the baby wasn’t demanding, or that anyone had gotten much sleep the night before – but Mom and Dad were so over the moon in love with their baby girl that they welcomed the challenges that came with with her. Mom gives some of the credit to all of the prenatal education and fitness classes she took at Acelleron Health and Fitness . Who knows if that was the reason, or the family that poured through the door to help out, or if being parents just came naturally to them…but I think you can just feel the love and joy in the images we captured together.

Oh, and did you see that nursery?! Soooo beautiful!

Nyack Family Photographer – Memories of childhood

08.22.14

So many things about this session made it dear to my heart. First of all, Mom and I went to the same elementary school, and seeing her again brought back some wonderful memories of childhood. It was awesome to see that she’s just as sweet now as she was back then! Secondly, the session took place in my hometown of Nyack, NY. Like most sessions, very little went according to “plan”, so we ended up heading to three different places throughout the evening.

First, we hung out by the Hudson River for a bit…until several busloads of people arrived all at once, making things just a bit too distracting for a 1-year old! He was a trooper, though, and loved playing the guitar with Daddy.

Next, we decided to head into town for some urban shots. But on the way, I spied this fantastic little spot with gorgeous light….so of course we had to stop!

Finally, we made it to Nyack just as the sun was setting. I’m so glad we were able to grab a few shots before we lost the light!

Overall, it was a beautiful, sentimental, happy session – and I can’t wait to hear about their newest family member in a few more months!
