Apple Blossom photo sessions are almost here!

The snow is gone, the sun is getting stronger, and the flowers will soon be in bloom!

Many of you know how much I adore photographing families in the beautiful flowers at Smolak Farms. The heat of summer hasn’t hit yet, holiday stress is comfortably behind us, and of course, the apple, peach and cherry blossoms create a gorgeous wonderland for families to explore while I capture authentic, happy images. I’ll work with you to design a session to remember, filled with things your family loves. Bubbles…books…baskets of flowers…perhaps even a customized picnic basket filled with treats for your family to enjoy! I’ll help you select a wardrobe, so all you need to do is relax and enjoy yourself. CLICK HERE for more info!

Flower sessions – North Andover Mother’s Day Photographer

As I sat down to write this post, I realized that I am a terrible blogger. I was fairly regular about posting session photos for a few years, but then life got in the way. As a mother and a business owner, I’ve had to regularly reassess my priorities in life. My children are already growing up much too quickly for my liking, and spending time with them while they are still little is so important to me.

That said, I also love my career. I truly enjoy getting to know the families I photograph, and it brings me great joy to watch people flip through their session albums for the first time. I take pride in making sessions fun, memorable, and enjoyable for everyone involved, and pour over images for hours afterwards to make sure that they are edited to look their absolute best. The one thing that easily slips by the wayside is blogging. I’d love to say that I’m going to do better in the future, but I know that probably won’t happen. For now, I’m just going to try to catch up a bit by sharing images from Spring 2017 to help you get through the next snow storm with a bit of optimism. In just another month or two, the snow will melt, the flowers will bloom, and we can capture your own family in this beautiful Spring setting!

All photos in this post (and likely the next few, too), were taken amidst the gorgeous orchards at Smolak Farms in North Andover. The apple, peach and cherry trees all explode with flowers in early May, providing a dreamy backdrop for family photos. First up are some Mommy-and-Me sessions from last May. These sessions make a perfect Mother’s Day gift!

I love the blossoms at Smolak so much that I always try to get at least a few photos of myself with my own kiddos there each Spring! Last year we even got to meet the farm’s sweet rabbit while we were there 🙂

North Andover Lifestyle Photographer – Cloud nine

This little guy only needs a few things to make him happy: bubbles, flowers, a ball, and – of course – his parents! Luckily, we had all of the above at his session, and he was on cloud nine the whole time we played together! We explored a beautiful new location, and everyone enjoyed the peaceful scenery and gorgeous light.

Cape Cod Photographer – Heaven on earth

Our family just got back from heaven on earth. We are refreshed, renewed, and already counting down the days until next year’s trip!

We spent the last two weeks enjoying sunshine, sand, and seafood in Cape Cod, MA. My husband and I grew up going to the Cape with our own families, and it’s been incredible to be able to take our children there now and watch them enjoy the same traditions and adventures that we grew up with.

We were lucky to have some beautiful weather this year, so we spent the majority of our time splashing around and making sandcastles at our favorite beaches:

When we weren’t at the beach, we enjoyed some yummy meals out, playing cards on the porch, and sorting the 394867 shells that came home with us each day!

But somehow, we always found our way back to the water…

This year, we took the kids on a hike to a new beach, and it was truly one of the most gorgeous places I’ve ever seen. The boys nicknamed it “hidden beach,” and the time we spent there was simply magical!

Until next year!

NYC Photography – The Big Apple with Big Cameras

I love traveling with my kids. I really do. I love seeing their eyes light up as they take in new sights and experiences. Most of the time, I enjoy watching my little ones so much that I only take out my camera to document a few snippets from our adventures. As we walk past scenery bathed in beautiful light, I take a mental picture and wish I had the energy/time/ability to stop and really capture it.

That’s one of the reasons I was so excited to attend the Pinkle Toes Workshop Reunion Trip to NYC! I’d get to tour New York with some fantastic women from all around the world, and never have to worry about holding anyone up by taking too many photos! What I didn’t count on was how wonderfully we would all “click” as a group (pun intended. couldn’t resist!). We wasted no time in getting to know each other, and shared nonstop laughs the whole weekend. Seriously – I don’t think we slept more than a couple of hours each night because we were having so much fun!

Although I grew up just outside of NYC, I had never done most of the touristy stuff until this trip! Battery Park, Top of the Rock, Times Square, a harbor cruise, walking the Brooklyn Bridge, a food tour in Greenwich Village….I still don’t know how we did it all in just a few days! I suppose it’s easier to fit everything in when you don’t have to make time for diaper changes and feedings 🙂

We thought it would be cool to see how different photogs all captured the same trip in different ways.  So I hope you’ll follow the blog circle to see images from my amazing friend Michele at PINKLE TOES PHOTOGRAPHY – Austin Lifestyle Photographer!  Not only is she an incredible photographer, but she is the one who started it all 🙂

North Andover MA Family Photography – Rainbows and donuts

This Spring session at SMOLAK FARMS had a little bit of everything – sunshine, rain, laughing, playing, eating, exploring…even a rainbow! I loved that Mom was cool with letting some of the session be purely “lifestyle”, meaning that I was able to hang in the background and just capture things as they unfolded. We started with some more traditional shots, and then, just as the kids started to get a little antsy, we took a donut break at the farmstand. Everyone enjoyed sweet treats while I kept snapping away – resulting in some of my favorite images from the session! Once everyone refueled, the kiddos were refreshed and ready to explore some more parts of the farm.

Do you see the love in these photos?! The snuggles were comfortable, the laughter easy, and the hugs plentiful. These are some of the *most* important characteristics of a successful photo shoot!

Life. In style. [Andover MA Lifestyle Newborn Photographer]

While I do enjoy doing some classically posed newborn photography, my heart feels fullest during a lifestyle newborn session. The term “lifestyle” refers to a type of photography that focuses on the interactions between people in everyday situations. There are no artificial lights, no forced poses, and the goal is to document life as it happens in an artistic way.

This session was filled with exactly that. What you see is what you get! Big sis genuinely adored her little brother, and the whole family enjoyed simply being together. We read books, jumped on the bed, snuggled….all things that characterize this amazing family’s life together.

Balloons and a bike

What better way to celebrate a second birthday than with a balloons and a bike?! When Mom got out of the car with this bunch, it was so big that I thought it might carry her away. Fun! The birthday boy has grown so much since their last family session, and it was nice to be able to hang out with him one-on-one for awhile!

My kind of town

Last March, I attended a Pinkletoes photography workshop in Austin, TX, and it changed my life.

That may sound a bit dramatic, but I assure you – it’s true!  Being a part of that workshop gave me the confidence to really follow my dreams, and certainly helped shape my business from that point forward.  Not only did I grow as a photographer, but I also met some amazing women whom I’m lucky to call my friends.

So, when I heard about a reunion trip to Chicago, I knew I had to go!  Not only did I get to reconnect with some of the ladies from the original workshop group, but I was also incredibly lucky to meet lots of other attendees from different workshop sessions.  It was almost eerie how quickly we all connected and bonded.  Even the cab ride from the airport to our hotel was filled with comfortable laughter!  By the end of the first day, it was as though we had known each other for years.  Amazing!  The weekend was a blur of cameras, girl talk, being tourists, and, of course, EATING!  Wow – there are some unbelievable restaurants in Chicago!  The hot dogs and pizza were amazing, but I’m still salivating over the sushi and steak!  I have a gazillion pics to go through when I have some real time, but thought I’d include a few of my faves here now 🙂
Thank you, ladies, for a fabulous weekend.  Now I’m already looking forward to the next one!

Project 365 – Week 6

This winter has been incredibly warm so far, and we are taking full advantage of it by getting outside every chance we get! Last week, we even did a little experiment with various toy planes. Hudson and I made predictions about which ones would fly fastest and farthest, then we headed outside to test our hypotheses. He (and I) loved it!

In other news this week:
*Oliver is getting more interested in books every day. It made me so happy and proud to walk into his room to find him “reading” to all of his stuffed friends.
*Hudson spent hours addressing and decorating valentines for his friends and family
*Oliver learned to ride his first trike (and was so proud that he refused to take his helmet off for hours!)

Project 365

If you saw my post from a few days ago, you know that I’ve been thinking about challenging myself to focus more on the “little” things around me this year. Everyday images that will capture my life and family as I see them.

And so, I decided to commit to snapping one pic a day, each and every day for a year. There are no real rules, except that the image must reflect something about my life right now…generally, something I don’t want to forget. I’m not going to overthink it, overpose it, or force moments to happen. I just want to capture reality – my life, my memories, and my heart.

And so, here are the images from week one! They include a winter picnic, Oliver snuggling his favorite blanket, and a snap from the day we turned Oliver’s carseat around for the first time.

I’m a little obsessed…

…with this yummy holiday treat. I found the recipe HERE and I think I’ve made about 10 batches already! It’s great to bring to holiday parties, fun for kids, and we may even leave a little bit out for Santa himself. It’s that good.

Go make some…you’ll thank me later!

My inner crafti-ness

One of my favorite Christmas traditions has always been the advent calendar. Chocolate, ornaments, trinkets, pictures…it didn’t matter what was inside of those little doors – I always enjoyed opening one each night leading up to the big day.
For Hudson’s first Christmas, I decided to make him a very special advent calendar to use for his whole childhood (or longer!). Each little pouch contains a slip of paper with a special Christmas wish or activity to do that day. For example, yesterday’s read, “Make an ornament with Mommy.” The day before was, “Read a special new Christmas book before bed.” This is the first year that he’s actually old enough to understand and enjoy the calendar, and it makes me so happy to watch how excited he gets to open a pouch each evening.

**I found the instructions for the project at the Allsorts blog years ago, when I actually had time to do projects like this 🙂
