Cape Cod Photographer – Our Family Adventure

Now that the kids are back in school, the weather is finally starting to cool down, and it’s Pumpkin Latte season at Starbucks, I am reliving one of the best summers ever by going through my vacation photos! As usual, we spent two glorious weeks in Cape Cod. Our extended family has grown so much that this year, we opted to get individual cottages around a beautiful lake instead of one large house. It was simply perfect! So perfect, in fact, that we’ve already reserved next year’s trip in the exact same spot! My husband and I grew up vacationing on the Cape, and it’s awesome to see our own kids enjoying things that were such a big part of our childhoods – tidepooling, mini-golf, seafood dinners at picnic tables, watching the sunset at the bay, long walks through salt marshes, and just relaxing at the house with family.

This year, we created some new memories and traditions lakeside! The cottages were adorable, and the kids loved having access to a swim dock, floats, row boats, and kayaks whenever they needed to get some energy out!

We had great weather for most of the trip, but there must have been a pretty crazy storm off shore! The waves at the National Seashore were unlike anything I’ve ever seen! Luckily, things calmed down enough to squeeze in a surf lesson for my husband 🙂 We explored windmills, lighthouses, and a gorgeous hike at Fort Hill – all fantastic adventures that the kids are still talking about!

We even managed to squeeze in a quick family photo shoot with Grammy and Grampy!

But mostly, we just played at the beach! Sunset at First Encounter beach in Eastham is absolutely spectacular, and we tried to get there as often as we could to say goodnight to the sun.

Family, Kids, Lifestyle, My Family

Our place

Cape Cod is our family’s place. It’s where we go to focus on ourselves and each other without the stress of work, obligations, or schedules. Every summer, we escape to this little slice of heaven and totally, completely, unabashedly relax. Bedtimes are vague, activities are spontaneous, and meals are often eaten picnic-style on the beach.
My husband and I vacationed on the Cape every year with our own families when we were younger, and it has been magical to watch our boys fall in love with the same things we remember looking forward to all year. Little things like outdoor showers (it’s a Cape Cod thing…), tidepooling at First Encounter beach, playing mini-golf, fried food, riding the waves at Marconi, and relaxing with some drinks and snacks on the deck after a long day in the sun…these all mean summer to me.
This year, we were blessed with gorgeous weather and lots of friends and family to share our time with. Not to be overly sappy, but it was truly so wonderful that we may have already begun planning for next year’s Cape Cod vacation 🙂

  1. Lena says: Awww - love it Sarah! The images are beautiful, and the writing also made me feel like I was there with you guys:) Love it that you used to go there as kids and now take your own kids there! It is so nice to have a 'special family place' like that... Our Jersey Shore vacations seem to be quite similar to yours and it makes me so happy just thinking about taking the girls there year after year and building family memories... Sorry, I am so sappy:) on 08.13.12 @ 8:54 pm
