A glance

It’s not that I *want* him to be overly dependent on me, or have attachment issues when I leave. I don’t want him to be sad or upset or even shed a single tear. But one glance back at his Mama as he marched into school today would have been nice….

Glow

As I pulled up to this sunrise session, I immediately fell in love with the location. There were beautiful waterfront inlets, winding paths, and a playground. But more importantly, there was a golden, glowy light that really set the scene for the morning.

Then, when the family emerged from their car in colors that exactly matched the mood of the day, I almost did a little happy dance (thankfully, I was able to restrain myself). I loved the way Mom knew just the right things to do to get her sweet baby to laugh, and Dad looked at his girls with such adoration. Watching the family just “be” was so natural and magical.

My favorite part of the session was when Mom pulled out a handmade book filled with all the things little G loves most – sparkles, buttons, mirrors, flaps and more. It was incredible! Some very special relatives crafted it just for her, and the amount of love contained in that little book was absolutely beautiful.

  1. Joanne Piazza says: I thought the pictures were spectacular. It's not easy to get a 1 year old to smile and laugh on cue, but Gracie is very photogenic. I especially love the one in the chair with the book and the one snuggling with Mom and...they are all beautiful. on 08.30.11 @ 7:46 am

Sleeping beauty

Photographing this session felt like hanging out with old friends. Mom and I had never met before, but discovered that we had lots of things in common: the same doctor delivered our babies, we are each juggling the challenges of two kids and a career, and we both like to talk. A lot. A few times, as I swayed and rocked the baby to get her sleeping for a shot, I almost forgot the real reason I was there!
Other things I loved about the session…
…the way Dad looked at his girls with uncensored joy
…watching big sis give the baby a bottle for the first time
…the ease with which we were able to get this 10-day-old beauty to sleep

This was one of those sessions that I couldn’t help but start proofing the second I walked through the door. I’m honored to have been a small part of this joyful chapter of their lives!

Class Beauty

Do you remember getting your high school senior photos taken? For most of us, this ritual took place either on the gym stage with a photographer’s black backdrop (or maybe your parents splurged on the “neon lights” or “natural forest” background…) or at a local indoor studio. The results were usually pretty predictable, sometimes attractive, but rarely showing any personality.

What if, instead of the ubiquitous over-the-shoulder-tilt-the-head-up-just-a-little-bit posed photo, seniors could really showcase their personalities and interests during a photo shoot? That was exactly the goal of this colorful, urban, fast-paced senior session.

Seniors

Best of both worlds

If it looks like we had a lot of fun during this session…we did! Sessions that include a 2-year-old are always high-energy, and this was no exception. In the course of about an hour and a half, we played on swings, blew bubbles, rode bikes, snuggled, read a book, watched a little tv, ate a snack, and jumped on the bed. All before 9am! I really enjoyed being able to start the session at the family’s own home so that this little guy was comfortable getting to know me in his own surroundings. Then we headed around the corner to a beautiful pond, where we finished up the morning with some waterfront shots. Best of both worlds!

Sunrise

The light at sunrise pierces through leaves, dropping hazy beams of sun onto the dewy grass. It flows around people, illuminating them with a soft glow. It is almost palpable in its….okay, sorry….got a little carried away there. What I mean to say, is that I like doing sessions right at sunrise because the light is pretty amazing.

Unfortunately, sunrise happens very early in this part of the world. So when I find a family who is willing to get up and out of the house at an ungodly hour to catch the best morning light, I’m a little giddy.

I am so grateful to this family, not only because they woke up, got dressed and drove to a photo session right at sunrise, but also because they are incredibly sweet people. They also happen to have an unbelievably smiley, happy, adorable little girl!
