LA Maternity Photographer – a new nephew!

My sister is having a baby! I’ll have a new nephew next August, and I am over the moon excited about it. She may live on the other side of the country, but I hope to see that baby boy as often as possible – so you may notice more travel sessions available in LA over the next few years ๐Ÿ˜‰

This past weekend, we threw the parents-to-be a “You are my Sunshine” baby shower back east, and it was so much fun!

My daughter was very intrigued by the celebration and the idea of a new cousin. She even appointed herself as the official gift-giver! It will be so interesting to see how they interact when the baby is finally born.

It may have been freezing outside, but we spent about 30 seconds grabbing a couple of maternity pics at the end of the day. Aren’t they so sweet?! I still can’t get used to seeing my little sister with a baby belly!

American Girl – Smolak Farms Breakfast

When I had my first baby boy 6 1/2 years ago, I entered a world of trucks, ninjas and superheros that was completely foreign to me. Over time, and with the addition of another energetic little guy, I got more comfortable with all the things that come with being a boy mom. I learned the name of every kind of truck, got almost as excited about construction sites as they did, and I came to accept the dirt, noise, and general chaos that filled my life. Then I had a daughter. A daughter who loves dolls, dresses, and sparkles.

I still enjoy the rough-and-tumble adventures I get to take with my boys, but also appreciate balancing things out a bit with manicures, shopping trips and quiet, gentle snuggles every once in awhile.

Yesterday, my mother, daughter and I attended a decadent American Girl breakfast at Smolak Farms. We enjoyed homemade quiche, donuts, scones, hot chocolate, cider, and treat after treat as we worked on crafts and played games. I was a little unsure if my daughter would be too young to participate in all of the festivities, but she was just enthralled by her surroundings, and loved being around the “big kids”.

(To be clear, the boys were invited to come with me to the breakfast too, but declined the invitation when they realized that they wouldn’t be allowed to drive a tractor at the farm.)

Neverland

โ€œDreams do come true, if only we wish hard enough. You can have anything in life if you will sacrifice everything else for it.โ€ – โ€• J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

This evening, we were treated to a one-of-a-kind performance of Peter Pan – aboard a hayride in the scenic orchards of Smolak Farms! My guys were captivated by the magical characters, and felt like they were part of the action as the actors climbed aboard the fantastic ride. Oliver was relieved to find that Captain Hook wasn’t TOO scary, and Hudson was almost as excited about the complimentary donuts as he was about the ticking crocodile. Such a fun family night!

A Family Day

My husband may be the car buff in the family, but I had such an awesome time at the Smolak Farms antique car show today! There were TONS of cars, crafts for the kids (make your own air freshener?! Cool!), delicious BBQ, hayrides, bouncy house fun, and, of course, the awesome playground. We didn’t pick any fruit today, but I think we’ll be back again soon…

Spring Fling

Every time I photograph an event for The Mother Connection, I find myself having as much as the party-goers themselves! The Spring Fling last week was no exception. With the help of a rockin’ dj, fun games and yummy food, everyone had a blast celebrating the beginning of Spring in New England!

Engaged

I love Christmas.
The excitement, the love, the magic.
But this year will go down as one of the absolute best ever, because it included a proposal! My baby sis is getting married!!

She didn’t have a clue it was coming, and these first images crack me up. First, excited to be opening a present…then totally shocked when she saw what was inside ๐Ÿ™‚

I am BEYOND excited to start the wedding planning adventure! Oh, and to welcome an amazing guy into our crazy family ๐Ÿ™‚

Giving Back

I joined The Mother Connection 6 months after my first son was born. I was at my breaking point and looking for other moms to connect with. Until then, I had been home with my very colicky baby worrying about my ability as a mother, my decision to stay home with him (those days were loooooong), and how I was going to find other kids my son’s age for him to play with (you know, when he wasn’t screaming!). Three years later, I can’t imagine my life without the support of the wonderful people I’ve met through TMC!

It’s run completely by volunteers, and strives to “give back to one another while giving back to the community.” My inbox is always filled with playgroup invitations, adventures to go on, and fundraising events for local charities. They helped me find a group of moms with little boys the same age as H, and we still meet often for our little guys to play and for the moms to chat. It has truly been a lifesaver for me!

I was happy to photograph the TMC Holiday Party yesterday, where I caught up with old friends, met some incredible new moms, and reflected on what a fabulous resource we have for families in our area. Judging by all of the smiles, I’d say the party was a highlight of the season for many of these kids!

Over the rainbow

For the next two weekends, the yellow brick road leads to Smolak Farms in North Andover! I was blown away by the talent and energy of this amazing group as they performed a hayride production of “The Wizard Of Oz” tonight. My boys loved the show, and the donuts were a much appreciated perk!

Welcome Fall

If there’s one thing I like more than summer in New England…it’s autumn in New England! We had a blast at Smolak Farm’s Apple Festival today – apple picking with Johnny Appleseed, singalongs, great food, wagon and hay rides, and even selecting the perfect pumpkin. It’s all happening again Sunday, so head on over if you are looking for something fun and “fallish” to do with (or without!) the kids.

Michelle’s Menagerie

This morning, my boys and I were treated to an amazing show, courtesy of Imajine That and Michelle’s Menagerie! The boys can’t stop talking about the snake, but I think my favorite was the fox…

Whim

Smolak Farms describes Whim as a “dinner in the rough.” I’d simply call it “magical.”
Every Wednesday throughout the summer, some of New England’s best chefs will take turns preparing a delectable moonlit meal, followed by a bonfire and a hayride through the orchards.

I was really looking forward to photographing this unique event last night, and it certainly didn’t disappoint! I think my favorite moment was at the end of the evening when several couples took it upon themselves to open the dance floor. The twinkly lights, cool summer breeze, and beautiful scenery all combined to make this one very romantic evening. I can’t wait to return with my hubby for a date night of our own!

Bubble Blast

When I woke up this morning to yet another rainy day, I’ll admit that I was pretty bummed. After a long winter and rainy spring, all the boys really want to do these days is play outside…and who can blame them? Luckily, we already had some fun plans for the day. We headed over the Imajine That, where we were treated to a bubble show with Mike Dorval, The Boston Bubble Guy! He amazed, delighted and entertained a room full of very enthusiastic little kiddos with bubbles of all shapes and sizes…literally. Even some of the adults got in on the fun!

Now I’m keeping my fingers crossed for sun tomorrow!

Party Central

Hayrides, tug of war, cider donuts, horseshoes, a dress-up tea party, sack races, barnyard animals, strawberry picking, treasure hunts….it’s every birthday child’s dream party!  Actually, these activities are all featured in 6 unique party themes at Smolak Farms in North Andover.  They were created by the talented Elisabeth Accardi from Upon a Star, and I was lucky enough to see them all in action last weekend at the farm.  There are so many photos from the shoot and I hate trying to narrow them down to just a few to put on the blog…..so I’m sharing all of them through a slideshow instead.

But first, here are a few of my faves!

And now, for the rest!
