Down on the farm

Over the past 10 years, our family has spent quite a bit of time at Smolak Farms in North Andover, MA. The boys love to feed the animals, take hay rides, play on the playground tractor, pick apples and pumpkins, and, of course, drool over the toy trucks in the farm stand.
That’s why I am so excited to be helping the good people of Smolak document all of the exciting changes currently underway. I don’t want to spoil all of the fun surprises, but today I was invited to photograph some amazing new birthday parties, designed by the uber-creative and talented (and unbelievably energetic) Elisabeth Accardi of Upon a Star. Not only were the parties a blast, but I’m envisioning some fabulous portrait sessions at the barn in the future…

Mother’s Day Tea

When IMAJINE THAT asked me to come photograph their Mother’s Day Tea, I thought it sounded like a cute event. I had NO idea how much time, effort and love they had put into making it a truly special morning! There were just so many little details – roses for the moms, real teacups, plant-your-own flower pots, kids’ manicures, tons of delicious treats, and, of course, tea! In all honesty, I think the kids enjoyed the sugar cubes even more than the tea, but hey – everyone had a great time.

Not only did Imajine That do a fabulous job, but I was very impressed by the kids who attended. I mean, really…breakable, delicate tea cups around kids and toddlers without a single casualty? Pretty impressive!

Bittersweet

One year. That’s it. One year to soak up the cuddles, smiles, babbles, and hugs of true babyhood. To feel the warmth of a little hand curled around your finger and know that you are his entire world. One year to elicit belly laughs with a silly face…over and over and over. For one year, it’s ok to wear footie pjs all days long. In public. Never again will he fit into those itty bitty clothes or find joy in an exersaucer. Of course, there will still be plenty of love and exciting “firsts” for years to come, but that first 12 months is somehow different.

To my surprise, I didn’t shed a tear on Oliver’s first birthday. I really thought I would. I’ve enjoyed watching him grow since we welcomed him into our family last year, and I am so in love with the little boy he is becoming that I’m excited to see what the next year will bring. Will he love trucks like his brother? Or will he be into dinosaurs, or animals, or sports? What will his little voice sound like when we have our first real conversation? As much as I’ll miss his babyhood, I’m ready for this.

But it’s still bittersweet.

Blarney Stones and Shamrocks

After a great Valentine’s Day party last month, I was excited to join Imajine That for another festive holiday this weekend. We had a blast celebrating St. Patty’s day with everything from shamrock tattoos to create-your-own blarney stones. Lucky leprechauns were even treated to rainbow science and art activities with the amazing new in-house educators and a fun sing-along with music teacher Justin. If you couldn’t attend this party, check out the website www.imajinethat.com for lots more exciting events and workshops!

I got so many great pics from the party that I couldn’t include them all here!  Parents, check out the link below for the rest of the images from the day.  You can even purchase prints directly from the link if you’d like!

Lovefest 2011

I had a great time yesterday at IMAGINE THAT, a huge indoor playspace in Lawrence, MA.  They throw great parties to celebrate just about every holiday, and Valentine’s Day was no different!  There was a love song sing-along, face painting, cupcake decorating – even conversation  heart games and crafts.  I’m so excited about working with them, and look forward to photographing more of their great events in the future!

If you want to see more pics from yesterday, check out the link at the Imajine That FACEBOOK PAGE.
