North Andover photo session – fall colors

Those leaves! They were just spectacular! Every year, I look forward to when this row of trees changes color, and we lucked out with the timing for this family session 🙂

The kiddos started out a bit unsure of exactly how much fun they were “allowed” to have during their session. Once they realized that they were not only allowed, but ENCOURAGED to ride a tractor, play with toys and run around like crazy, the smiles never stopped!

Methuen maternity photographer – Sisters

These big sisters may just have been the sweetest, happiest, most enthusiastic kiddos I’ve ever photographed! They were up for anything I suggested, and we all enjoyed running, snuggling, jumping, dancing and exploring together. One of my favorite things about maternity sessions is that they allow me to really get to know a family before the chaos of the newborn session. I only hope that baby brother is as easygoing as his siblings!

Newburyport lifestyle photographer – By the water

10.02.14

Three years?! Really?! I recall this family’s LAST SESSION so clearly that I was shocked to realize it was so long ago! Of course, when we met up this time around, I immediately saw that the kids were no longer the babies I remembered. They had grown into beautiful, sweet, happy children who no longer attempted to jump into the water at any given chance!

One thing that remained constant through the years is their love of the ocean. They enjoy boating together, soaking up sun at the beach, and splashing in the water during New England heat waves. For their last session, we played in the surf at Crane beach – this time, we headed north to Newburyport, where we enjoyed watching boats come and go at the yacht club. Such a perfect way to say goodbye to summer!

North Andover child photographer – Skipping rocks

I’ve been photographing this family since baby brother was just TWO WEEKS OLD, and it’s always fascinating to see how they’ve grown and changed from one year to the next! LAST YEAR, I thought it was a miracle that we got both boys to sit down AND smile for their Christmas card photo. Let’s just say that it was a challenge again this year….but we got it! This first pic is still my fave, though. The morning light…the fall leaves…the ripples in the water…the way the little guy is looking towards his big bro…. If those were my boys, I’d print that up big and hang it somewhere that I’d see it every day. I almost want to do that even though they aren’t my kids!

Apple orchard session – Sweet as pie

09.29.14

This young lady is no stranger to the camera. Her acting and modeling resume is already rather impressive…and she’s only in first grade! (You can check out her talent HERE)

When we were planning the session, Mom wrote, “This time, I want her to just be a kid, having fun, showing off her currently toothless grin and being happy! I don’t want to worry about stray hairs, or everything being perfect.” So, we did just that! We laughed, ran, played, and even picked some apples. We didn’t stop to fix anyone’s hair, and we didn’t worry about posing everyone just right. But somehow, I think the images we captured are…well…pretty perfect!

Newburyport photographer – The best laid plans…

09.26.14

….well, you know the rest.

Last Spring, this family reserved a session to take place in the sunflower field. I visited the farm a few days before the session to make sure I knew the light and the grounds, and I was excited to capture the girls amidst the beautiful flowers! Then, it got cold. Very cold overnight. Cold enough that there was a frost, and all of those beautiful sunflowers wilted into sad brown stalks. Soooooo…..we changed our plans on the spot, headed over to Newburyport, and wandered from beautiful brick walls to bright flowers, and eventually down to the beach. The evening was warm, and the fog was so dense that we could barely see the water from the parking lot by the time we left! It was really unique and a very different type of beach setting than I usually get to shoot.

It may not have been what we expected, but sometimes spontaneity provides the most memorable, enjoyable, and beautiful images.

Littleton Family Photographer – A morning at home

I first met this family a year ago when B was just a tiny NEWBORN. Mom and I hit it off, and I’m now lucky to consider her a friend! I’ve had the pleasure of watching these kiddos grow through the past year, and it was wonderful to capture their big personalities again with a photo session a few weeks ago. After looking at bare walls in their new house for quite some time, they were anxious to finally fill them with some beautiful, custom wall art. I can’t wait to see these images hanging up!

I just loved those photos of big sis on the tire swing! Can you believe that I almost left without ever even knowing that it was hiding out back?!

Gloucester Family Photographer – In motion

09.01.14

Most kids like to run. But these two LOVE to run. Or climb. Or do anything that would make an adult’s head spin! Luckily, I was warned about this ahead of time, and Mom and I chose session locations that would allow for all of the action that the family loves, while still providing a beautiful backdrop. We started at their house, where everyone was happy and comfortable. Then, when things started getting a little crazy, we headed over to a little park right by the water to enjoy some swings and slides. We finished up the session at beautiful Good Harbor Beach, just as the sun was sinking below the horizon. The images we captured are certainly true to life – full love love, smiles, and lots and lots of action!

Lowell Family Photographer – Mommy and me

08.28.14

Sometimes, all it takes is a simple, spontaneous action to help a child feel comfortable at a session. This sweet girl was a bit slow to warm at first, but as soon as I offered to make her a crown of flowers, she was all smiles 🙂 (To be honest, I had NO idea how to make such a thing…but we had so much fun playing around and figuring it out together!)

After that, we spread out a blanket amidst the flowers, sang songs, and Mom snuggled up her little girl. I hope these images will bring back memories of a silly, happy, fun-filled summer morning!

This little guy only needs a few things to make him happy: bubbles, flowers, a ball, and – of course – his parents! Luckily, we had all of the above at his session, and he was on cloud nine the whole time we played together! We explored a beautiful new location, and everyone enjoyed the peaceful scenery and gorgeous light.

Boston Family Photography – A celebration

This session was truly a celebration – of summer, of family, and of love. One last hurrah at Smolak Farms before the eldest son left the nest and headed off to the Army. There were lots of laughs, lots of smiles, and maybe even a few tears.

Of course, no summer celebration would be complete without some ice cream!

Cape Cod Photographer – Heaven on earth

07.17.14

Our family just got back from heaven on earth. We are refreshed, renewed, and already counting down the days until next year’s trip!

We spent the last two weeks enjoying sunshine, sand, and seafood in Cape Cod, MA. My husband and I grew up going to the Cape with our own families, and it’s been incredible to be able to take our children there now and watch them enjoy the same traditions and adventures that we grew up with.

We were lucky to have some beautiful weather this year, so we spent the majority of our time splashing around and making sandcastles at our favorite beaches:

When we weren’t at the beach, we enjoyed some yummy meals out, playing cards on the porch, and sorting the 394867 shells that came home with us each day!

But somehow, we always found our way back to the water…

This year, we took the kids on a hike to a new beach, and it was truly one of the most gorgeous places I’ve ever seen. The boys nicknamed it “hidden beach,” and the time we spent there was simply magical!

One year old. One whole year since this little man joined the family, and changed their lives forever. A year of watching a scrunchy, sleepy newborn grow into a silly, loveable little guy, so full of personality. That first birthday is a pretty big deal – not just for baby, but for Mom and Dad, too. It’s a milestone that is often celebrated with photos – and I was honored to be invited to capture these images so that they could look back at this happy time and remember the love, excitement, and joy.

Family Photography North Andover MA – The Tea Party

This adorable, funny little girl is literally growing up in front of my camera. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing her before she was born, then as a NEWBORN, at SIX MONTHS, ONE YEAR, and now 1.5! Seeing her family so regularly has made our sessions so comfortable, fun, and enjoyable – it’s like getting together with friends each time I photograph them.

When mom suggested we have a tea party in the woods, I thought it sounded like a perfect activity for her next session! I had so much fun capturing this sweet girl with her favorite doll during a morning of play and laughter.
