Andover Family Photographer – Catching up

It was so much fun to catch up with this energetic family again this Spring for a mini-session! The girls have grown so much since their LAST SESSION, and we had a blast playing in the flowers and around the beautiful gardens. We were only together for 30 minutes, but there were so many laughs that we captured tons of smiles!

Merrimack Valley Newborn Photographer – Embrace the chaos!

As I went through this family’s newborn images, I realized that I never blogged their maternity mini-session! I know I’ve said it before, but I just love how adding a maternity mini to a newborn sessions allows us to meet, talk, and get excited together before the baby is even born.

On the morning I first met this little guy, I was impressed by how calm the household was – especially the three older siblings! They all enjoyed holding and snuggling their little brother, and mom and dad were so obviously in love with their kiddos. Of course, there was certainly some craziness at times, but nobody seemed particularly bothered by it. I suppose that’s the only way to successfully parent a big family! Embrace the chaos 🙂

Andover Newborn Photography – Baby brother

I first met this family last fall, at their MATERNITY SESSION. The girls were playful, loving, happy – and very excited to meet their baby brother! It’s always so helpful to get to know older siblings before a newborn session. Bringing a new baby home can be a major adjustment for a family, and I love being a familiar, friendly face for the big kids.

On this snowy morning, we snuggled, played, and eventually got baby brother to sleep. Even the dog got in on the love!

Of course, we had to snap a few shots for their Christmas card!

North Andover Child Photographer – Superwoman

This girl! Oh, how I love her! I’ve had the pleasure of photographing her every 6 months since she was born, and she just gets sweeter and more adorable with each session. She also gets faster! I chased her around for quite some time a few weeks ago, and captured images of her playing, laughing, and loving life.

And just look at that costume! Isn’t it awesome?! I loved how she embraced the role of Superwoman with such enthusiasm – flying through the air with her cape blowing behind her in the wind.

Andover Photographer – Natural parents

Many first time parents are a bit overwhelmed when they bring their little ones home from the hospital. Adjusting to long (often sleepless) nights, frequent feedings, and caring for this beautiful – but demanding – new boss of the household can be quite a shock.
So when I knocked on the door to photograph this new family, I expected to walk into chaos. But much to my surprise, all that greeted me was love and patience. That’s not to say that the baby wasn’t demanding, or that anyone had gotten much sleep the night before – but Mom and Dad were so over the moon in love with their baby girl that they welcomed the challenges that came with with her. Mom gives some of the credit to all of the prenatal education and fitness classes she took at Acelleron Health and Fitness . Who knows if that was the reason, or the family that poured through the door to help out, or if being parents just came naturally to them…but I think you can just feel the love and joy in the images we captured together.

Andover MA Lifestyle Photographer – The everyday

When we first started planning this session, Mom told me that she wanted to capture some of the things her family loves most – including shots of them enjoying beautiful downtown Andover, MA. I loved the idea of including places that are part of their everyday – the library, a favorite park, and walking around the vibrant storefronts. We actually weren’t even going to do any of the session at their home, but a heat wave made us rethink that decision…and I’m so glad we did! The moment I walked into their house, I was blown away by the color, the style, and – above all – the comfortable, homey feel.
The images we captured that evening certainly reflect the love, the joy, and the beauty of a happy family!

Flashback to fall [Andover MA Family Photographer}

Some sessions are just….easy.
Comfortable.
Effortless.
Fun!

I only had a very short time with this family, but we squeezed a lot of laughter, love, and happiness into the session. They weren’t too concerned about “smiling for the camera.” Instead, they joked, they talked, they played with their beautiful little girl – all while I snapped away. I hope these images bring them happy memories of a beautiful fall morning at the park!

Toddling toddler [Andover MA Baby Photographer]

I distinctly remember photographing this beautiful little girl when she was just DAYS OLD. It was a hot, humid day, and my own morning sickness was in full swing. Holding, rocking and snuggling this little one made me even more excited to meet my new baby! Since then, I’ve followed along as baby girl grew into an active 6-month old, and now a beautiful, happy little toddler! I only hope that my daughter is half as cute in a few more months!

Life. In style. [Andover MA Lifestyle Newborn Photographer]

While I do enjoy doing some classically posed newborn photography, my heart feels fullest during a lifestyle newborn session. The term “lifestyle” refers to a type of photography that focuses on the interactions between people in everyday situations. There are no artificial lights, no forced poses, and the goal is to document life as it happens in an artistic way.

This session was filled with exactly that. What you see is what you get! Big sis genuinely adored her little brother, and the whole family enjoyed simply being together. We read books, jumped on the bed, snuggled….all things that characterize this amazing family’s life together.

What a difference 6 months makes!

Endless love
Responsibility
Sleep deprivation

First time parents have a lot on their plates – along with caring for a newborn! I always warn new parents that the baby will run the show during a newborn session. If she wants to eat, she eats. She wants to nap? She naps. We just go with the flow!

That’s why I love returning to a family for their baby’s 6-month session. All of that uncertainty is usually replaced with a much more relaxed vibe. 6-month-olds are often full of smiles, sit up on their own (or with a little help), and Mom and Dad are much more comfy in their new parental roles.

This little beauty was no exception! I first met her parents for their maternity session last year, then caught up with them again for a beautiful NEWBORN SESSION. Seeing everyone again for her 6-month session was a happy little reunion 🙂 I can’t wait to hang out with them again in another 6 months!

2012: My Project 365

Exactly one year ago today, I began the most intensive personal photography project I’ve ever attempted – a Project 365. For all of 2012, I captured one image a day that reflected something about my life. Most photos involved my two little boys, since, well, my life basically revolves around them 🙂 Of course, there were times that I wasn’t with them (like my sister’s wedding in Mexico!) and days when I chose to capture a different subject in my life, but looking at the completed project makes me acutely aware of the depth of my love for my family.

I’m not gonna lie – some days this project was just plain hard. There were days when it rained all day, the kids (or I) were sick, and it got to be 5pm before I remembered to drag out the camera bag. But then there were others where photo ops seemed to throw themselves at me all day long! Our family vacations, daytrips, days when the boys were happy and the sun was shining…it was often hard to choose just one image!

I learned a lot in the past year, and the lessons were not always related to photography. I learned to slow down and look around. To notice the little things – pockets of beauty where I least expect to find them. I learned the importance of capturing memories for my boys, since life can change in the blink of an eye. It’s already a bit hard to look back at the first few images of 2012 and remember just how dramatically they’ve grown in the past year.

Although I won’t be doing a Project 365 for 2013, I will continue to bring my camera wherever I can. Watching my boys as they viewed this year’s slideshow for the first time was absolutely wonderful. They laughed, squealed, and smiled as they relived the memories of 2012. In fact, they’ve been talking about our adventures for the past hour, and we are already planning out an amazing 2013. THAT is my inspiration. I will continue to shoot with their giggles, happiness, and love in mind.

For those of you curious (and patient enough) to watch my culminating project of 2012, I present to you….

**The slideshow will take a minute or two to load (more if you are viewing on a mobile device), so turn on your speakers, sit back, and wait for the show to begin!

  1. Cindy says: Sarah, I cant express how much I enjoyed watching the slide show. I watched it twice and I told David he couldn't jump in to view it half-way....he had to start at the very beginning. :-) You have a beautiful family and you and Simon really are blessed! I look forward to future editions of Project 365! It brought us a lot of joy! xo on 07.27.13 @ 12:56 pm

Pretty in pink

When I walked into the living room of this session to meet little E for the first time, her Daddy was holding her in his lap, just gazing at his baby girl. It was such a beautiful moment that I grabbed my camera immediately, and didn’t put it down until the sun said goodnight.
Big brother was gentle, patient, and apparently already in love with his little sister. Of course, he was also filled with the energy and attention span of a three-year-old…so we moved fast and played hard the whole time 🙂 Not much different than when I first met him for his one-year-old photos two years ago!
We were blessed with a beautiful evening, and were able to capture some images inside before heading out to catch a spectacular sunset by the flowers.

Magical. Peaceful. Perfection. Thanks for sharing your beautiful family with me for the evening!

There’s nothing quite like…

…a Mama’s love. I had THE BEST time at Mother’s Day Mini’s last weekend! It was a day filled with love, laughter, silliness, cuddles, playing, joking, running, and treating this group of mother’s like the rock stars they are 🙂
You may know that I don’t do mini-sessions very often. Hardly ever, in fact. But I think that this will become a Mother’s Day tradition!
